MKX comics are an amazing phenomenon – on the one hand they are cool and tell events before MKX, on the other hand, the player wants to play the game, and not read comics to understand the events of the game. But even so, the comics are good. There’s just one catch..

Yes. One of the writers of MK11, Dominic Cianciolo, said that the comics are not canon. Okay, let’s say they really are not canonical, although in the dialogues in the same MK11 some events are confirmed, but nevertheless, this is the scriptwriter of the series. His words are true, you can trust him-

Ah… Another MK11 screenwriter Same spoke about comics, and he said that comics are canon. That is, even the writers themselves haven’t decided whether it’s canon or not. There is an option that since one screenwriter said about the canon before another, it means that everything was changed later. But no one changed the dialogues in MK11, and they confirmed the canonicity of the comics. And this is just the beginning.

Part III | You are adopted

Scarlet appeared in the series relatively recently, namely in MK9. It existed before, but only as rumors. Do you remember the story with Ermak. You already figured out that Scarlet was retconned, but it’s so weird that I have to tell you:

Initially, in MK9 we are told that Scarlet is a warrior created by Shao Kahn so that she would reveal the plans of Quan Chi, but she could not do this. It seems that everything is ok, even in the MKX comic, there was a dialogue between Mileena and our bloody warrior, they say the latter is the same daughter of Shao, like Mileena. Remembered, consolidated. Now MK11:

In MK11, when meeting https://kingpalacecasino.co.uk/bonus/ Kotal, Scarlet says that being an orphan, Shao Kahn picked her up, and in other dialogues she says that the emperor taught her blood magic. Yeah, that is, Shao is such a good father, who tries to replace one orphan with a clone, and, you see, teaches another orphan blood magic. “Family Emperor”, damn..

No, I wouldn’t have a problem with this retcon if it changed something significant, but if you leave Scarlet’s lore from the 9th part, then nothing will change except, perhaps, a couple of dialogues that have no effect on anything. Loyalty to Shao Kahn? Yes, he literally created Scarlet. Blood Magic? Pfft, there is one too.

In short, Shao Kahn is a great stepfather.

Part IV | TITANS

I’ll take a little breath and tell you about the origins of the MK universe:

It’s incredibly easy to get confused here. I originally wanted to make a joke, but the joke is bullshit.

Part V | Fire darling… Sindel

This retcon makes me ESPECIALLY on fire.

Remembered? Now forget it. According to MK11, Sindel is the bitch who killed Jerrod because he was weak. But the question arises: where did the tournament come from?? They won’t explain to us? If after the retcon the version that the Elder Gods organized a tournament and set up a barrier became canon, then why was Sindel resurrected in MK9? This retcon either changes the appearance of the tournament or cancels its existence. Since Sindel was FOR Shao Kahn, then why did she, in principle, not only cast a spell, but also kill herself?? Hubby was SO good that he was too good? It’s bombing me, because if Sindel were just evil, I wouldn’t have any complaints, because this is a revenant that Sindel was evil from MK9 and so on. But now the canon has been changed unnecessarily.

If in the case of Scarlet I was infuriated by the uselessness of the changes, then here, these changes only spoil everything.

Part VI | Let’s do it again..

Well, they bombed and that’s enough. Let’s look at the changes to the canon that will be in MK1. Of course, we won’t draw conclusions from this, let’s wait for the release and see how they reveal and show.

There will be changes in it and here they will be justified, because there is a restart, a new timeline, etc. In the upcoming game, according to the developers, many characters will have their own stories of development. Unfortunately, there is not much information, but it is interesting. For starters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero will be brothers. Moreover, Sub-Zero is Bi Khan. Does this mean Scorpio is Kuai Liang?? Not clear. Also, from the gameplay trailer, we can find out that Mileena is now the queen of the Outer World, Kung Lao was not raised in the Shaolin Monastery, and Raiden, on the contrary, is a Shaolin Monk. In this timeline, Kung Lao knows neither about the tournament nor about Shang Tsung. Hell, even Kenshi will have time to visit them. By the way, the events of MK1 take place BEFORE the tournament. But I will devote a separate blog to gameplay and partly plot details.

As a result, I can say that if changes are needed for the sake of the plot, then let them do it. The main thing is that the logic is preserved.

Part VII | Results

Despite everything that has been said about retcons, this phenomenon in itself is not bad. The main thing is to do it normally, as it was in the original Star Wars trilogy. Who doesn’t know, it was originally planned that Vader would simply be the killer of Luke’s father, but they decided to rewrite it and make him Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s father. Obi Wan Kenobi’s monologue in part 4 was played out in the series, for example. Again, retcons are not a bad thing, for example the plot twist with Raiden and Liu Kang facing each other over and over again is interesting. To justify the writers, I can say that in the original trilogy, Liu became a zombie while his spirit was not put to rest.
