I don’t really understand opinions in the style of “the quest can be forgiven for having bad animation and graphics”. I met you several times. 2011 is just around the corner. Why would an adventure game be forgiven for being ugly and clumsy?? Moreover, today even in nancy games the animation is at its best (which, IMHO, is certainly not the cutting edge of adventure production).

Yes, the quest is not required to be hyper-realistic, but the picture must be stylish and organic if the game claims to be at least “decent”. From my point of view, of course.

In Amnesia, the graphics are far from being the strongest point, but in this case the drawback is not too critical, since the game style is very original in general. And, by the way, there are few animation tasks in it. Animating the movements of a rotting zombie, which we, moreover, hardly see up close, and animating the movements of the heroine, whom we constantly see in front of us and constantly chase around the monitor space – these are slightly different things, right?

And Telltale, by the way, is https://shangrilacasino.co.uk/ okay with animation. And the graphics are quite organic. Happiness is not in special effects, in my opinion, but in an organic and integral impression. Teltail games have wonderful facial expressions, I’ve always said that 🙂

In Gray Matter, for example, the angularity and unnaturalness of the animation is very disturbing, because it destroys the very atmosphere for which we love quests so much.

Nowadays, the quest genre is far from being dealt with by the richest companies in order to produce high-quality graphics. And the genre itself is full of atmosphere.
At least when I played Amnesia I didn’t have any thoughts about the poor graphics, although SG put it as a minus

Full Throttle – still excellent hand-drawn graphics, great plot, phrases, but poor compatibility with modern audio cards and monitors.

ABOUT! And here Maria went to blogs. 😉 Well, the main thing for quests is that the graphics fit well into the game. Let’s say TaleTale Games projects are not replete with special effects and an abundance of polygons, but nevertheless they are pleasant to play.

Graphics in games are not the main thing, but rather necessary. So ugliness is nowhere forgivable. But the lack of technology, due to the low budget, can be forgiven for quests.
